Building DIY Eurorack Modules

N8 Eurorack Prototype PCBs let you build your DIY modular synthesizer your way without waiting for those one-off custom PCBs to ship. With an N8 Eurorack Breadboard, you can experiment and iterate designs as quickly as prototyping a stripboard modular synth. N8 Eurorack Control Decks and pre-drilled blank Eurorack panels let you mount your sonic creation in your DIY Eurorack case, equally ready for the road or bedroom studio.

To assemble your next DIY Eurorack module, you’ll need to connect your N8 Eurorack Breadboard to an appropriately sized N8 Eurorack Control Deck using 2.54mm pin headers. Using both a male and female pin header allows the Control Deck to be detached from the breadboard ( handy for debugging ), but a single 90-degree male header can be used for permanent connection with our 4HP, 6HP and 8HP Control Decks

Solder the angled male header to the breadboard when using both male and female headers. Again, this is helpful for debugging as the Control Deck can be removed and probes clipped to the exposed pins.

Depending on the HP of the Eurorack Control Deck, you’ll want to solder the male header to either the front or rear of the breadboard, as described below. Details of where the connections from the pots, sockets and switches mounted on the Control Deck appear on the breadboard can be found here and are also printed on the rear of each Control Deck. Mounting the 4HP 1x6 Eurorack Control Deck

A 40-pin 2.54mm single-row female pin header is soldered to the rear of the 4HP 1×6 Control Deck. We recommend this is done before you mount components to the front of the Control Deck.

A 40-pin 2.54mm single-row right angle male pin header is soldered to the rear breadboard. For a 4HP module, the pin header must be mounted on the rear/solder side of the breadboard. This will ensure proper clearance when the module is mounted in your case. We recommend attaching the pin header to the breadboard after all other components have been placed and soldered.

The two pin-headers attach the Control Deck to the breadboard and provide connectivity for the components mounted on the control deck.

Hex nuts, supplied with our pots and 3.5mm jack sockets, attach our pre-drilled 4HP 1×6 Eurorack panel to the jacks and pots on the control deck, completing your module.

Mounting the 6HP 2x6 Eurorack Control Deck

A 40-pin 2.54mm single row right angle male pin header is soldered to the breadboard. For a 6HP module, the pin header is mounted on the front/component side of the breadboard. This will ensure proper clearance when the module is mounted in your case. We recommend attaching the pin header to the breadboard after all other components have been placed and soldered.

Mounting the 8HP 2x5 Eurorack Control Deck

A 40-pin 2.54mm single-row female pin header is soldered to the rear of the 8HP 2×5 Control Deck. We recommend this is done before you mount components on the front of the Control Deck. 

A 40-pin 2.54mm single row right angle male pin header is soldered to the breadboard. For an 8HP 2×5 module,  the pin header is mounted on the rear/solder side of the breadboard. This will ensure proper clearance when the module is mounted in your case. We recommend attaching the pin header to the breadboard after all other components have been placed and soldered.

The two pin-headers attach the Control Deck to the breadboard and provide connectivity for the components mounted on the control deck.

Mounting the 10HP 3x6 Eurorack Control Deck

Two 40-pin 2.54mm single-row male pin headers are soldered to the rear of the 10HP 3×6 Eurorack Control Deck. We recommend this is done before you mount components on the front of the Control Deck. 

Two 40-pin 2.54mm single-row female pin headers are soldered to the front/component side of the breadboard. We recommend attaching the pin headers to the breadboard after all other components have been placed and soldered.

The four pin-headers attach the control deck to the breadboard and provide connectivity for the components mounted on the control deck.

Using female headers with long pins allows multiple N8 Eurorack Breadboards to be stacked for more complex modules.

Hex nuts, supplied with our pots and 3.5mm jack sockets, attach our pre-drilled 10HP 3×6 Eurorack panel to the jacks and pots on the control deck, completing your module.
